Methods Of Reconstruction Of Breast
Reconstruction of Breast
Breast reconstruction is carried out in two ways.
For instant breast reconstruction an implant is positioned inside behind
the muscle and skin in order to generate a new breast. Another way of
doing it is to use tissue expansion and create a form of the breast. Under
the muscle and skin an implant which can be filled and expanded to the
shape of the breast is placed and then an enduring implant can be replaced
later.
The more complex method is to use the fat, muscle and skin from other
component of the human body to make the breast shape. Tunneling fat, skin
and muscle from tummy or behind the chest with an implant of the shape
of the breast kept next to the tissue is known as pedicled tissue flap
reconstruction. In this way blood is supplied to the muscles from the
part of the body from where it has been taken.
When the fat, muscle and skin are used with the tissue completely removed
from blood supply and using micro surgery blood supply is given then the
method is known as free flap reconstruction.
When fat and skin alone are transferred from abdomen or buttock to breast
completely from blood supply and using microsurgery blood supply is given
then the process is known as free perforator flap reconstruction. In this
operation muscle is not transferred.
Since blood supply is provided the patient does not find any difference
that an implant has been done and moves around like a normal person.
